Chapel Stile

This superb rural cottage in the unspoilt Langdale Valley enjoys a picturesque setting in the village of Chapel Stile. Chapel Stile is located at the head of the valley and, although has a blissfully remote feel, those who wish to explore will find Ambleside, Coniston, Hawkshead, Grasmere and Windermere only 4 miles away. The Cottage provides endless access to low and high level walks in the Langdale Valley, some of the most photographed landscapes in the Lake District, and you'll soon see why.

Chapel Stile village itself has a small shop, a cafe and an acclaimed Lake District country pub, The Wainwrights Inn. Stroll further into the LangdaleValley and you'll find the peaceful atmosphere and spectacular views continue..... with a few more noteable pubs on the way. This location is an obvious choice for a walking holiday in the Lake District; hike to England's highest tarn, or take on the spectacular Jack's Rake up Pavey Ark as you tick off the famous Langdale Pikes; Harrison Stickle, Pike of Stickle and Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Loft Crag. The adjacent Wasdale and Borrowdale Valleys bring more superb routes within easy reach, and are traditional starting points for an ascent of England’s highest summit, Scafell Pike.

The Langdale Valley

The Langdale Valley is the quintessential Lakeland location and  Chapel Stile offers an ideal base from which to explore. With beautiful hamlets  such as Elterwater, Little Langdale and Chapel Stile all to explore and  breathtaking views around every corner the Langdale Valley is unique.

If you want big imposing  summits to conquer there is no shortage to be found at the head of the Valley,  all with names that conjure up the spirit of Wainwright and the Lake  District. The Langdale Pikes, Pavey  Ark, Crinkle Crags and Bowfell are  all close by. For those who prefer a  more relaxing ramble rather than  serious mountains the Valley will not disappoint as it boasts a wealth of lower  level routes where you will find unmatched panoramas to charm you at every turn.

If Mountain Biking is your thing then the area offers a huge range of interconnected bridleways to explore and if this isn’t enough only a short drive away (or if you are really energetic a 10km ride) is Grizedale Forest with its network of bridleways, forest roads and, the “piece de resistance”, the infamous North Face Trail.

Whatever you are seeking  in the Lake District the Langdale Valley will not disappoint.
